Fish and chips were created in England in the middle of the 1800's and by the early 1900's, there were over 25,000 places created specifically for serving this dish. Today, it is served all over the world and is available at even the most unlikely of places.

I LOVE fish and chips. I get so excited when I am out and see them on a menu. I order them, take one bite of happiness, then feel overwhelmed by how oily they are and cannot finish my food. I wish I could say I learned by lesson early and stopped doing this, but it took a long time for me to realize that I should create a really good recipe and focus on making them myself or with others.

This recipe is awesome. While playing around with variations, I decided to bake this as to avoid that heavy feeling that comes with too much fried food. If you want to have it gluten-free, use an organic gluten-free flour. For my recipe, I used a sprouted, organic flour. I made a version of this with both gluten-free and regular wheat flour as well as sweet potato and white potato fries. You know, to test all the options out...

I will give the recipe for sweet potatoes, but feel free to swap it out for any potato you prefer!

The joy of this dish is that the fish, potatoes and sauce can be whatever you want them to be.

Prefer a classic aioli or a tartar sauce to the sauce I made? There is an easy recipe on this blog! Check the link below the recipe!

Make sure to have an awesome seasoning mix ready. I make a basic smokey seasoning mix to store in my spice pantry for when I need it. (And by pantry, I mean the very cramped shelf above my counter...) If I want a different flavor profile, I will add other spices such as a curry powder, cumin, or celery salt. I am in the works to try making this with the Smoked Salmon Vegan Style recipe on this blog to try out a vegan option, but in the past, I have purchased frozen vegan fish when making this vegan. I will include a link to the vegan recipe once developed!

I know it may not be the healthiest of recipes, but it is surely one of my favorites. And if something makes you happy, it must be healthy for the soul.

So grab your apron and check out the recipe below!
